The Tiger Claws films are Canadian martial arts cop thrillers starring Cynthia Rothrock and Jalal Merhi as New York detectives Linda Masterson and Tarek Richards. Merhi's company, Film One, made the series, and J. Stephen Maunder wrote the first film.
This set collects Tiger Claws, Tiger Claws II and Tiger Claws III.
Tiger Claws. Directed by Kelly Makin in his feature debut. A mysterious killer is murdering martial arts masters with a lethal style called the Tiger Claw, and the two detectives use unconventional methods to track him down. Bolo Yeung plays the killer, and his duel with Merhi is the main event.
Tiger Claws II (1996). Bolo Yeung's killer is broken out of prison by a gangster's crew and taken across the country to San Francisco's Chinatown. Rothrock and Merhi follow, and the stakes get higher.
Tiger Claws III (1999). Also known as Tiger Claws III: The Final Conflict. A psychotic martial artist raises the spirits of three ancient Chinese assassins to take over New York's underworld, and Masterson and Richards have to fight the undead. Loren Avedon joins the cast.
Where should I start? Start with Tiger Claws. The sequels continue with the same two detectives.
Is it suitable for younger viewers? The BBFC rated the first film 15 for its 1992 UK release. We haven't found published ratings for the sequels. All three contain martial arts violence.
Prefer just the first film? Try Tiger Claws DVD. For more Jalal Merhi, see Talons of the Eagle (1992) DVD.
