Jean-Claude Van Johnson is an American action comedy series made for Amazon Prime Video, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as a fictional version of himself. It was created by writer Dave Callaham, directed by Peter Atencio and produced by Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions with Amazon Studios.
Kat Foster, Moises Arias and Phylicia Rashad co-star.
The joke is in the title: Van Damme's movie career has secretly been a cover for his real job as an undercover operative called Johnson. Now retired, he is lured back into the field, partly to reconnect with the woman he left behind. The show plays with his screen image, his famous splits and the business of action filmmaking, while still delivering fights.
Where should I start? Start with the pilot. It sets up the premise, and the rest of the season follows on from it.
Why is it listed as 2016? The pilot premiered in August 2016. The rest of the first season was released in December 2017.
