Blades of the Guardians: Wind Rises in the Desert is a 2026 wuxia epic directed by Yuen Woo-ping, the action choreographer behind some of the most famous fight scenes in Hong Kong and Hollywood cinema. It is based on the manhua Biao Ren by Xu Xianzhe.
Wu Jing leads, with Nicholas Tse and Jet Li among the cast. The film opened in mainland Chinese cinemas over the 2026 Chinese New Year holiday.
Dao Ma, a wanted man himself, is given a strange job by the clan chief who once helped him: escort the empire's most wanted fugitive across the desert to Chang'an. Bounty hunters, rival fighters and the land itself stand in the way, and the trip becomes as much about who can be trusted as about getting there alive.

Is it based on a comic? Yes. It adapts Biao Ren, a Chinese manhua by Xu Xianzhe.
Is it suitable for younger viewers? The BBFC rated the 2026 UK release 15 for strong violence and injury detail.
