Deadly Strike is a 1978 Taiwanese kung fu action film written and directed by Huang Fei-lung, who also handled the action and appears on screen. It stars Bruce Li (Ho Tsung-tao), the most prolific of the performers who rose in the wake of Bruce Lee.
Chan Sing and Lung Fei, two of the most recognizable heavies of the era, are in the cast.
A new police chief arrives in a provincial town with orders to break a dangerous gang. His own deputies are lazy and useless, so he turns to the prisoners in his cells instead and offers pardons to any who survive the job. His recruits include a knife-throwing expert, a pickpocket and a widower jailed for avenging his wife. The chief is ruthless, the gang is worse, and nobody can be sure who will make it to the end.
Does it go by other titles? Yes. It has also been released as Wanted! Bruce Li, Dead or Alive.
Who directed Deadly Strike? Huang Fei-lung, who also wrote it and worked on the action.
For more Bruce Li, try Exit the Dragon, Enter the Tiger (1976) DVD. For another ensemble with Chan Sing, see The Heroes (1980) DVD.
