About the film

A fugitive monk and two unlikely students

18 Fatal Strikes is a lean 1978 old-school kung fu film directed by Yang Ching-chen, built on one of the genre's favorite setups: an injured master, a pair of ordinary young men, and a lesson plan that has to be finished before the enemy arrives.

Stephen Tung Wai leads, with comic actor Dean Shek and Wen Chiang-lung in support.

The film

A Shaolin monk on the run from a Manchu warlord collapses near two brothers, who take him in and nurse him back to health. When the warlord's men pick up the trail, the monk starts teaching the brothers his style so they can protect themselves. The story stays close to the classic training-and-payback rhythm, with the brothers' progress measured fight by fight.

Is it also called 18 Deadly Strikes? Yes. 18 Deadly Strikes is a common alternate English title for the same film.
